I was pleasantly surprised to find my Lab Results in my eMailbox this morning, less than 24 hours after my physical. And I was even more pleasantly surprised by the results themselves. Everything was normal or in the normal range.
My Cholesterol was 160, below the 200 recommendation... the HDL (Good) was above the suggested minimum and the LDL (Bad) was below the suggested maximum, so I'm good there, as well as my Triglycerides, which was 57, way below the recommended max of 150.
Liver test was in normal range, as was sodium, potassium, glucose, calcium and a bunch of other stuff that I'll have to look up when I get a chance.
So this was all good news, but more important to me is that after 35+ years of abusing my body at various times with alcohol, tobacco, recreational chemicals, sodas, and junk food, and very little exercise... I came out of all that unscathed, for now... so I view this as my second chance.... no actually, probably my last chance to stay healthy and do things right in the last few chapters of my life. Not only for my family, but for all those people that didn't get another chance... and all those people that did everything right and still got a bad break health wise.
It reminds me of when I was still smoking, a friend of mine who had a son that had a respiratory disease told me straight up, "It's a shame that you want to ruin your lungs, my child would give anything for healthy ones." That stuck with me... and even though I didn't quit at that time, despite being shamed, I did quit a couple of years after that.
