Another comment I get is, "Why are you doing all this for, you're gonna die regardless." And they are absolutely right, I will die. I could go tomorrow for all I know. That person could outlive me by 20 or 30 years even with their unhealthy ways. It's not about when you die, it's about the quality of your life while you are still alive.
I'm not afraid to die, I'm afraid to live a long life and not be able to take care of myself or my family. I'm afraid of living a long life and having to have somebody take care of me.
I see people all the time, only in their 40's out of shape, obese, some of them getting around in those motorized scooters. And it goes on, they're overweight and they're eating fried foods and drinking quart size cups of soda. You can go to Atlantic City and see people with the oxygen tubes going into their nose and they're smoking cigarettes one after another. It's very sad.
I smoked for 20+ years, I drank more than my share also, plus a few other bad things I won't mention. I have no idea what kind of damage I did to my body. All I know is, I have never felt better in my entire adult life than I do right now. I wouldn't trade it for the world... and you know what? It gets better all the time.
And it gets better all around:
Physically, you look better and feel better.
Emotionally, you handle the daily stresses better.
Intellectually, your mind becomes more focused and sharper.
Socially, you have more confidence in new situations and in general.
Spiritually, you appreciate life and living more. Sunrises are awesome, a new beginning every day.
Of course all this healthy eating and exercising is no guarantee that you'll stay healthy or alive longer. But I guarantee all that other stuff will not keep you healthy for long.
So, I'll keep eating healthy so that I can really enjoy an occasional Beer and Schnitzel.
I'll keep exercising so that I can handle all that life throws at me for years to come.
It's not about when you die, it's about the quality of the life you have while you're still alive.
As a friend from Quebec likes to say, "Life is Good."
