Another thing I always hear is, “I don’t have time to count my calories, to plan my meals, weigh my food, or to work out, I have to care for my family.” But if you don’t take care of yourself, sooner or later somebody is going to have to take care of you.
It’s like the financial planners always tell you, “Pay yourself first.” Or when you are on an airplane, the stewardess tells you if we lose cabin pressure, masks will fall down and to secure yours over your face first before you help others.
Taking care of yourself first is the ultimate in un-selfishness, for if you don’t take care of yourself first, you are going to have a hard time taking care of others. And by taking care of yourself, you are teaching others to take care of themselves. Leading by example, teaching by example.
So if you have to get up an hour before everybody else in the morning, do it. Take an hour for yourself every day. You can accomplish a great deal early in the morning when everyone else is asleep and it’s nice and quiet.
I work out as soon as I get home from work, everyone knows it’s my time. I close the door and nobody disturbs me. Even with warm-ups & cool-downs I’m out in less than an hour. It’s all about how bad do you really want it, whatever that is.
